چکیده

A tool built from primarily public domain software components is presented to evaluate the performance of packet forwarding devices used in modern TCP/IP based computer networks. The tool makes possible to specify complex traffic patterns based on a high level definition, then to execute the designed measurements and collect data, to process the results of measurements, and finally to generate high quality figures and tables for presentation. The component based, distributed architecture of the tool assures flexibility and scalability. After customization, the tool allows the performance evaluation of Linux based routers as demonstrated in the example.

Assessing the Quality of Flow Measurements from OpenFlow Devices

Since its initial proposal in 2008, OpenFlow has evolved to become today’s main enabler of Software-Defined Networking. OpenFlow specifies operations for network forwarding devices and a communication protocol between data and control planes. Although not primarily designed as a traffic measurement tool, many works have proposed to use measured data from OpenFlow to support, e.g., traffic engin...

Assessing Soft- and Hardware Bottlenecks in PC-based Packet Forwarding Systems

Due to grown capabilities of commodity hardware for packet processing and the high flexibility of software, the use of those systems as alternatives to expensive dedicated networking devices has gained momentum. However, the performance of such PC-based software systems is still low when compared to specialized hardware. In this paper, we analyze the performance of several packet forwarding sys...

Inference Tool of Priority Based Packet Forwarding across Network via Feedback

Priority based packet forwarding in the network communication through routers is common mechanism now a days. This can have a significant impact on the accuracy of network measurements, the performance of applications and the effectiveness of network troubleshooting procedures. But There is no protocol to provide routing for end-to-end approach for forwarding packets based on priority. In this ...

Priority Queueing Applied to Expedited Forwarding: A Measurement-Based Analysis

The priority queueing mechanism is analysed to verify its effectiveness when applied for the support of Expedited Forwarding-based services in the Di erentiated Services environment. An experimental measurement-based methodology is adopted to outline its properties and end-to-end performance when supported in real transmission devices. A test layout has been set up over a metropolitan area for ...

Technischer Bericht ET: End-to-End Tunneling Extension to Mobile IPv6

In the standard Mobile IPv6, route optimization or bidirectional tunnelling through the home agent show inefficiency in per-packet forwarding, especially when both communicating endpoints are mobile. To be scalable and compatible, mobile devices’ packets should be forwarded in a way with minimal changes to the network infrastructure. However, the current solutions do not provide any means for t...
